2014 Maine weekend

We love lobster! We love fresh sea food! Therefore, each year we try to get up to Maine to enjoy the beautiful Maine coast and enjoy the local seafood. This year we took off from Dayton at 8:30 AM on Friday, September 5th for what turned out to be a 4.9 hour flight, with a tail wind and with a fuel stop in Pennsylvania. We arrived at the Rockland airport (KRKD) and headed to our hotel in Tenants Harbor, the East Wind Inn. We checked in and then drove to Port Clyde a few mile away for a late lunch. The choice, lobster stew with a glass of wine, life is good.

- Fresh!
- Port Clyde Harbor
- Port Clyde warf
- Yum, lobster stew
We explored after lunch then returned to the East Wind and after cocktails had a incredible dinner in the dining room. Huge fresh scallops, in a casserole of spinach, lobster, with bread crumb cream sauce which was to die for. Nice bottle of wine, life is good. Good nights sleep then breakfast at the East Wind, another culinary extravaganza. This time German apple cinnamon pancakes and local bacon, we are on a roll. So Saturday we are going to the Owl Head Transportation Museum. We were blown away, by this incredible collection of transportation related exhibits. All done very well, perfectly restored or exactly replicated. The museum tells the story of transportation, starting with energy, with early steam engines, a 28 cylinder radial cutaway B36 engine and a modern jet engine. There is a huge exhibit of cars, including the most extensive MG motor car exhibit I have ever seen, but with lots of other great restored cars, a very extensive early aircraft exhibit and lots of other very interesting transportation related stuff. We spent, the whole morning there and could have spend the day, but lunch became a priority. I included just a small sample of the exhibit, its extensive and very well done.

So fresh seafood is calling and we head for Camden, Maine, one of our favorite spots on the Maine coast. This is a busy place with lots of tourists this time of the year. We wonder around for a while then head for a favorite seafood restaurant on the wharf. Today it’s calms. For me steamed for Joyce fried, both are very good. We head back to Tenant harbor to relax, then we meet our COPA (Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association) acquaintances who live in our home state of California and summer in Maine. Dan and Jackie Richard are planning to put together a lobster fly-in next year in this wonderful place, which I’m sure will be a winner. We enjoy cocktails at there home on the water then, top off the trip with lobster at a great sea food restaurant. The next morning it up early and in the air by 8:30 AM, then with a stiff head wind and a stop for fuel, we are back in Dayton by 2:00 PM in time to watch the first week of NFL football. What a great weekend, brought to us by our Cirrus airplane and COPA friends.
