Minnesota

Park Rapids turned out to be a charming rural American town. The town had the same unpretentious feeling of the towns that Joyce and I grew up in. Nolan and Nancy picked us up and helped us tie down, which was a chore in the gusty wind. We checked in at the hotel, did a tour of the town and visited for awhile at the Hanson’s home. We then went to dinner at a local restaurant, where I enjoyed the fresh walleye. Sunday we had breakfast at the Hanson’s home then headed for Itasca State Park, which is the location of the head waters of the Mississippi river. We visited an exhibit the tells the story of the search and discovery of the head waters and the building of the park during the great depression.
Monday morning we had breakfast with Nolan and Nancy and were off to the airport for our flight to Duluth. What do you know we actually had a tail wind for our short 50 minute flight. We flew into the Superior Airport to meet our friend from the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association, who lives in Duluth, Andy Niemeyer. Andy met us and treated us to the best hamburgers in Duluth at The Anchor restaurant, We had a fun lunch and good chat and then we were off to Harbor Springs.
