Fall Trip North

We decid­ed that our usu­al fall fly­ing trip this year would be to Min­neso­ta and Michi­gan. We had been want­i­ng to vis­it our friends the Han­son’s who sum­mer in thi­er home town in Min­neso­ta. We also want­ed to explore a part of Michi­gan that many friends fre­quent but we haven’t vis­it­ed. We would make a stop in Duluth and have lunch with one of our friend with whom we worked with on the Cir­rus Own­ers and Pilots Asso­ci­a­tion annu­al gath­er­ing and who is a fel­low board member.

We were sched­uled to leave Fri­day Sep­tem­ber sev­enth, how­ev­er moth­er nature inter­vened. A line of storms stretched across our route of flight so we post­poned our depar­ture. It turned out to be good deci­sion since it turned out to be a very vio­lent sys­tem. Sat­ur­day morn­ing we took off as the tail end of the weath­er passed over Day­ton and except for very strong head winds and gusty cross winds on land­ing in Park Rapids Min­neso­ta it was a good flight. Our plan was to fly west of Chica­go and stop for lunch and fuel in Madi­son, Wis­con­sin. This turned out to be a good deci­sion since the head winds would have forced us to stop and refu­el anyway.
