Fall Trip North

We decided that our usual fall flying trip this year would be to Minnesota and Michigan. We had been wanting to visit our friends the Hanson’s who summer in thier home town in Minnesota. We also wanted to explore a part of Michigan that many friends frequent but we haven’t visited. We would make a stop in Duluth and have lunch with one of our friend with whom we worked with on the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association annual gathering and who is a fellow board member.
We were scheduled to leave Friday September seventh, however mother nature intervened. A line of storms stretched across our route of flight so we postponed our departure. It turned out to be good decision since it turned out to be a very violent system. Saturday morning we took off as the tail end of the weather passed over Dayton and except for very strong head winds and gusty cross winds on landing in Park Rapids Minnesota it was a good flight. Our plan was to fly west of Chicago and stop for lunch and fuel in Madison, Wisconsin. This turned out to be a good decision since the head winds would have forced us to stop and refuel anyway.
