Sonoma California

Saturday we had breakfast a the Big Three at the Sonama Mission Inn, then headed out to do some wine tasting. The objective was some Zinfandel and we heard about a great one at Kunde vineyard. We also wanted to see if the Matanzas Creek vineyard was still producing quality Merlot. It was a perfect winter day in the Sonoma Valley and we enjoyed the drive and were not disappointed in the wine. Kunde has a Zin produced from hundred year old vines that we like a lot and a case was on the way to SC. We liked their Chardonnay as well, so another case was ordered. We toured the Kunde wine caves and were comfortable that they had plenty of good wine coming. Matanzas Creek also was worth the drive and we bought their Merlot and Chardonnay, so it was a successful wine buying and tasting trip. We were reminded of how beautiful California, and especially the wine country is and how the vineyards add to the romance with the settings they create.
The main reason for the trip was to attend our best friend, Bruce Edwards award ceremony held at the Jacuzzi Winery in Sonoma Saturday night. It was a black tie affair with appropriate splendor to toast the recipients. Bruce was honored for his support and service to UC Davis and we were proud to join his family to honor him. One of Bruce’s other guests was Ken Sandy one of our high school football team mates, (he was good), who brought a picture from our high school period. I am posting it here and there should be a prize if you can name the characters. It does provide some insight into our beginnings in Danville, Calfiornia in the fabulous fifties.
And from Ken Sandy’s photo archives:
In spite of what you may think, I don’t think any have a prison record and one was the Sheriff of Contra Costa County, California. Isn’t the United States of America Great?
